Alex Schlacher

Alex Schlacher is an Austrian photographer who has done extensive work with police and military units in the US and Europe. While embedded with the US Marines in Helmand Province/Afghanistan in 2011, she also had the privilege of spending some time with the Royal Gurkha Rifles – going on patrols with them, staying in their camps, getting to know them – and came away fascinated and in awe of their spirit, culture and dignity. She has been in the unique position of being allowed total and unprecedented access to the Brigade of Gurkhas, and has photographed them ever since.
