Chickenshed, the theatre company in north London, is one of the most innovative and best-loved performing arts organisations in Britain today. A pioneer of inclusion, open to people of all ages, backgrounds, races and abilities, it has profoundly affected the lives of the thousands who have walked through its doors.
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Elliott & Thompson collaborated with Chickenshed and author Elizabeth Thomson to tell the full tale of this remarkable company for the first time.
In Chickenshed: An Awfully Big Adventure, published in 2013, Elizabeth Thomson charts the theatre’s unique story through interviews and personal recollections from those who have been touched by its work. Elliott & Thompson and Chickenshed’s many staff, volunteers and supporters collaborated to bring together hundreds of unpublished images that reveal the passion and vibrancy that have made Chickenshed the success it is today. With a foreword by Dame Judi Dench, one of Chickenshed’s longstanding supporters, the result is an inspirational volume that has been well received, featuring on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. This is a beautiful book that brings the theatre’s rich history to life.
